What HbA1c is normal, and what does it mean in blood sugar?

An HbA1c below 5.7% is normal, 5.7% to 6.4% is prediabetes and 6.5% or more is diabetes.

To turn it into average blood sugar, the ADAG formula adopted by the American Diabetes Association is 28.7 × HbA1c − 46.7, in mg/dL.

Your doctor's reading of your reports comes first.

How this works

It uses the ADAG study formula adopted by the American Diabetes Association: average glucose (mg/dL) = 28.7 × HbA1c − 46.7. For reference, an HbA1c below 5.7% is normal, 5.7% to 6.4% is prediabetes and 6.5% or more is diabetes. A single test is not a diagnosis: unless the signs are clear, the American Diabetes Association asks for a repeat test to confirm it. Your doctor's reading of your reports comes first.

A number is a starting point, not a plan. On a free call, Puja looks at it with your reports and your routine.
