What is a healthy waist-to-hip ratio?

Divide your waist by your hips. A lower ratio is better.

The World Health Organization (2008) treats these as a sign of fat stored around the middle:

  • 0.85 or more for women
  • 0.90 or more for men

That fat carries more health risk than fat on the hips and thighs.

SexRatio that signals more risk
Women0.85 or more
Men0.90 or more

How this works

Divide your waist by your hips. The World Health Organization (2008) treats 0.85 or more for women, and 0.90 or more for men, as a sign of fat stored around the middle, which carries more health risk than fat on the hips and thighs.

A number is a starting point, not a plan. On a free call, Puja looks at it with your reports and your routine.
